TINA
SHARKEY
Senior Vice President of Network & Community Programming, AOL
|
|
Tina Sharkey, Senior Vice President of Network & Community Programming for America Online, oversees the design, development and programming of the AOL network - which includes AOL.com, AIM, and other Web properties that attract a total of more than 100 million monthly visitors - as well as the AOL Welcome Screen, the window into the AOL service for more than 22 million paying members. In addition, Tina manages community across AOL and the Web and the social-networking initiatives and consumer experience for AIM.
Prior to this role, Tina oversaw the successful development of a strategic programming approach called Life Management, which includes areas on the service such as Personal Finance, Bill Pay, Parenting, Research & Learn, Homework Help, AOL Food, Living and Diet & Fitness. Recognizing that many AOL members must balance work, families and households, Tina led the creation of a suite of solutions that help make members' lives easier. One of the most successful was AOL Bill Pay, the #1 online financial activity by AOL members that lets members pay, track, view and manage their bills online, and the Money Coach program, which is part of the most visited personal finance site on the web, with participation from more than 1 million AOL members. Another success was AOL Food, which partners with Time, Inc, to build an extensive database and online tools for home cooks. Tina led the integration of more than 17,500 recipes from leading publications such as Real Simple, Food & Wine, Southern Living, Cooking Light, Coastal Living, Sunset and Health. This December, Tina and her partners at Time, Inc. were recognized with the first ever Time Warner Chairman's Award for Collaboration for her work on AOL Food.
Tina also pioneered the America Online Chief Everything Officer award, which highlights achievements of family managers who do it all. Maria Shriver was the first recipient of this annual award. Tina was also selected as a distinguished guest and speaker at the 2004 California Governor's Conference for her continued efforts on behalf of women and families across America. And she has held prominent speaking roles on women and technology at conferences including Women in Communication, Women in New Media, Wharton Media Conference and Working Mother.
Before coming to AOL, Tina was a co-founder of iVillage, the pioneering online community for women, and served as its Senior Vice President of Programming and Chief Community Architect. She was also Group President of Sesame Workshop's Online Services, where she created the award-winning Sesame Street interactive media business, and collaborated with Barry Diller on a new home shopping channel, Q2, a division of QVC, where she served as Vice President of Marketing and Programming.
Tina helped launch the Adobe Acrobat and New York 1 brands while at Frankfurt Balkind, where she also managed corporate brand strategies for Time Warner, QVC and Sony. She was a Principal at Majestic Partners, a media and technology consulting firm in New York, where her clients included the New York Times Digital and Cisneros Television Group.
Tina's many charitable and educational activities include membership on the Dean's Council at the University of Pennsylvania and the Board of Sister to Sister. She is a founding board member of Baby Buggy and a Judge for the Smithsonian Institution's New Media Innovation Awards. Most recently, Tina was selected as an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow, which engages the next generation of leaders in the challenge of community-spirited leadership.
